Originally named the Southern California Half, the Irvine Half Marathon and 5K has been renamed in order to give the city of Irvine a larger stake in its community event. The 28 year old race evolved from the Woodbridge High School Cross Country Classic and benefits Woodbridge High School Athletics as well as all Irvine Schools.

The pre-race bib pickup and Race Expo, as well as the post-race Finish Line Festival will all be held in Mike Ward Community Park and will feature an array of visitors and sponsors held on the Thursday and Friday prior to race day on Saturday.
