After more than 30,000 national and international visitors had experienced Lisbon Under Stars at the famous Ruins of Carmo Church during two months in 2018, and the Award for Best Cultural Event for the year 2018, awarded by BEA WORLD, the immersive spectacle is returning to Lisbon.
Created and produced by OCUBO, in an institutional partnership with the Carmo Archaeological Museum, it's a multidisciplinary experience that brings together multimedia projections, virtual dancers and visual effects, to the sound of great Portuguese music.

Between 2 May and 17 July, with two daily sessions (at 9h30 p.m. and 10h45 p.m.), the Ruins of Carmo Church will once again become a setting for a historical journey, which will immerse its visitors into more than 600 years of history of the city of Lisbon and Portugal, as told by the voice of the church.
LISBON UNDER STARS is an immersive and unique spectacle in Lisbon. A multidisciplinary experience that brings together multimedia projections, virtual dancers and visual effects, to the sounds of great Portuguese music. Proven to be the ideal stage for LISBON UNDER STARS, Carmo’s Ruins provide a new way of experiencing the history of more than 600 years of the city and Portugal.
The walls of Carmo Church are transformed into a three-dimensional screen, where we can experience a travel in time through 45 minutes of the show. The journey is emphasised with the special participation of several renowned Portuguese artists, who are virtually present in this experience. The show is further enriched with the great sounds of Portuguese music.
The public, being at the centre of the event, can move freely through space, see and experience different perspectives of this immersive travel and get involved in this remarkable audiovisual and sensorial experience under the starry sky.
On the same place, under the stars,, 630 years ago, Carmo Church was born. Resistant to time and testimony of an immense history, that turned it into one of the most beautiful landscapes of Lisbon. Today, under the same stars, its powerful story full of adventures is revealed.
LISBON UNDER STARS counts with a special participation by Mariza, Paulo Marinho, Rão Kyao, Teresa Salgueiro, Tocá Rufar, Lisboa Cantat Chamber Choir and Municipality Orchestra of National Republican Guard, whose songs and performances are part of the virtual experience. Dancer of dance associations Companhia Clara Andermatt and Companhia Nacional de Bailado have been choreographed by Clara Andermatt, are also present in the show, interacting with the walls of the ruins.
Carmo Church was born 630 years ago, under the starry sky. Until this day, it has been representing immense beauty and a symbol of resistance, as well as a privileged witness to wars, peace, art, victories, defeats, love, hatred, change of the most poetic monuments of the city. The church has become a principal character of the show.
Under the same stars, the visitors are invited to experience the thriving and adventurous history through an impressive visual and sensorial experience which promises to once again touch and delight the visitors.
LISBON UNDER STARS is a creation done by OCUBO in an institutional partnership with the Archaeological Museum of Carmo. The project has been created in 2018 within the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, with the aim of enhancing the history and heritage of the capital city with an innovative and multidisciplinary concept.
